A Word from the Author

Greetings,

My name is Frank Eugene Dukes Jr. My story begins when I was six years old.

 Our family moved to Garyville, Louisiana, leaving behind the familiar for the promise of something new. My mother,

 three sisters and I flew to our new home. Sitting by the window on the airplane

 I watched the world from above, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension.

In Louisiana, my mother and I often traveled to New Orleans for my medical appointments.

 I was born with a hole in my nose, a condition that required frequent check-ups. New Orleans, 40 miles away from Garyville, became a place of healing and hope.

 We always traveled by Greyhound bus, my mother’s strength and patience guiding us through every journey.

One day, while playing army drills on old tires, I tripped and fell, badly injuring my nose.

 That day wasn’t just about physical pain—it was a turning point. It taught me resilience, the strength to rise after every fall

. It became a symbol of my journey, shaping my character and my life.

My story is not just mine. It’s a testament to every struggle, every triumph, and every moment of grace.

 I share my experiences to inspire you, to remind you that no matter what you face,

 there is always hope. Never give up, never surrender.
